Perhaps it’s the period, but this song randomly came on my ipod and i got such a sick feeling in my stomach and practically broke into tears. It’s been pretty much two years since I received a blow that shattered my heart into so many pieces that even today I’ve not pieced it back entirely. After being begged for forgiveness I attempted the ‘fixing’ of someone. In these two years I’ve been on the mend all I can say I’ve learned is that you cannot fix someone. You cannot change someone. Always trust your gut, and dont allow the intoxication of love cloud your better judgement.

there was a time that this song could make me break into tears. now, it’s just nostalgicly sad.

Google - Knol: a unit of knowledge: Google is taking the wiki to its next iteration with Knols, which are “authoritative article about a specific topic” that also have their author’s name associated with it. Like a wiki, any reader can make edits; unlike a wiki, they have to gain the author’s approval before they are published. It’s in Beta now, but it’s pretty neat!

i have to disagree—i think that if he was talking about age in general…well, then that’s what he would have said, and it’s not. he could have very easily framed it as “i’m going to talk about this in terms of women, because that’s what i know, but it’s about everyone,” and he didn’t—he very specifically and repeatedly targeted women, and in not a very nice way.
although i don’t want to debate hypotheticals, i will :) in that i actually do not think that he would have set up the conversation in the same way had he been discussing a gender reversed situation here. in my experience (both cultural and personal), males are congratulated for “scoring” with older women, whereas the women are chastised for being either cradle robbers or taboo sex goddesses, (see ashton kutcher and demi moore, stiffler’s mom)—and to be honest, that’s part of what gets my goat here. it seems to me that no matter what women do when it pertains to their sex/dating lives, they’re fair game for insults. it used to be that only women dating younger men were taboo—now we’re saying that women dating older men is a problem, too?

basically, women face a lot of pressure from all sides, and their socially accepted options are narrowed by the normative narrative—for example, it’s not okay to be fat, but girls who are perceived as “too skinny” are not okay either, getting told to “eat a sandwich,” and asked if they are anorexic. it bothers the bejesus out of me when someone—anyone—comes and makes a sweeping generalization about what is/is not okay for women to do, and back to my original point, this is most definitely about women. men are not mentioned at all, and you can’t just assume that he’s painting a society wide brush when that’s not what is being said. moreover, if that is the case, then why are women being used as the example?

Here’s another thought: why aren’t you going for the older women? I’m sure there’d be plenty a vivacious cougar who’d love to teach your 20something ass a thing or two, and when the women your age decide they’re interested in you, you’ll have more “experience” to bring to the table.

Or do you only want — or feel that you’re entitled — to the twentysomethings?

here’s another thought: maybe it’s because older guys are less likely to judge a girl for those she’s dated in the past. i mean, really, what business of yours could her decisions prior to meeting you possibly be? what sense of entitlement do you need smacked out of you that makes you believe that because a girl is dating you, her entire life gets to be called into question by you?

this really bugs the shit out of me because it’s vitriol specifically directed at women—“I can’t blame the older guys (heck, if you’ve got money and want to screw around, why not take the best you can get) but I can blame the women my age for encouraging them and allowing this cycle to continue.”

what the fuck? why is it okay for men to “screw around” but it’s not okay for women to enjoy the company of an older man, for whatever reason? why the hell is the burden of making YOU a happier man on ALL WOMEN of a certain age? really, who do you think you are?

Having fun in supermarkets:

Walk around the store and pick up exactly $20 worth of beer/liquor, plus a jar of baby food/pack of diapers.
Approach the checkout clutching a $20 bill in your hand.
When they ring everything up, look puzzled for a second, then pick up the jar of baby food/diapers and say “ah, I guess I’ll just put this back then”.
Watch their faces.
